Planning & Implementing a Successful Sabbatical
Sabbaticals are a perk in academia which has been around since the 1880’s. Today, going on sabbatical requires a formal application on most campuses with clear deliverables and benefits for the individual and the institution. This workshop will include personal experience and historical perspectives, with the focus being a series of hands-on activities to help you prepare, plan, and advocate for your sabbatical.
After the conclusion of this presentation, participants will understand:
- the application process
- goals and barriers for your sabbatical
- finding a sabbatical host
- funding a sabbatical, including travel and lodging
- family considerations
- leaving your responsibilities in order (and leaving them behind)
- planning for re-entry
The workshop will wrap up with an implementation plan, where you will set specific goals and a timeline for your sabbatical.
Following the workshop, attendees will be able to ask their questions directly during a dedicated 30-minute Question and Answer session with the facilitator.
